Things To Do In Chicago This Fall

The Bean in Chicago in the fall

I don’t know about you, but I love this time of year. Minus the cold of course! Around the holidays there are always fun things to do in Chicago, not to mention it’s filled with good food, laughs, and loved ones. There are so many memories to be made and that’s why I look forward to the months of November and December each year!

I feel even more excited this year since last year social distancing was in effect in Illinois, so options on what activities you could do were limited. Thankfully, due to the vaccine, things look a lot different this year! With that being said I can’t wait to enjoy the weather and fun fall activities in and around the city of Chicago.

As you’re making your plans for this holiday season there are a few activities you should consider adding to your schedule. I’ll be adding them to mine!

Here are 4 fun fall activities to do in Chicago right now.

Christmas Around The World and Holiday of Light

Beginning November 17th you can head to the Museum of Science and Industry to experience Christmas around the world.

Visitors will be able to explore rich holiday traditions from around the world while creating traditions of their own with loved ones. It’s a fun way to kick off the holidays while learning something new! Fun fact: this event started in 1942 with just one small Christmas tree. Now the tree that’s displayed is a four-story, floor to dome Grand Tree surrounded by more than 50 trees and displays decorated by volunteers that represent holiday traditions from cultures around the globe.

I think this exhibit is great for people who enjoy immersing themselves in different cultures and have an interest in holiday traditions.

Lightscape

I went to Lightscape last year with my family and I must say it was one of the best light shows I have ever seen. From beginning to end we were amazed at the light displays and how well everything was put together.

I’m hoping to attend this year again and I’m expecting it to be another great experience. The best thing about Lightscape is that as you’re walking through the exhibit you’ll hear Christmas music playing along with the lights. It’s really cool, especially once the sunsets. Side note: while there are tickets sold earlier in the day I recommend going once the sun is down for the full experience.

Christkindlmarket

Inspired by the 16th-century Christkindlesmarkt in Nuremberg, Germany the Christkindlmarket unites cherished European and German tradition with international flair and added local charm.

This outdoor market is well known for its vendor’s high-quality food and gifts, holiday cheer, and for being the ideal place for families to make holiday memories. I have yet to visit the Christkindlmarket, but my family and I are planning to go this month. I can’t wait! I’ve heard only good things about the market, so it’s about time I go and see for myself.

Christkindlmarket is set to open on November 18th, so not much information is available yet. To learn more about the market and keep up with updates click here.

The Office Experience

If you’ve ever wanted to visit Schrute Farms, walk through the Dunder Mifflin office, and relive Jim and Pam’s iconic romance this is your chance!

The Office Experience will feature original costumes and props from the show, iconic set recreations, and new ways to engage with the show. At the end of the exhibit, visitors can walk through the gift shop, which is set up as the Warehouse, featuring merchandise like a “World’s Best Boss” mug and Dunder Mifflin apparel.
